400 Feet Films Aerial Videography has Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) permissions to work.  Fully insured with £5m public liability insurance to fly up to 400ft (120m), adhering to strict safety and operational rules.

Licensed commercial operators of UAV’s (unmanned aerial vehicles) as Somerset Drone Videographers we are licensed within the UK for both day and night work.

Having passed the CAA-approved exams and flight assessments, we hold the required industry Remote Pilot Qualifications (RPG’s) for multi-rotor aircraft under 7kg.

As CAA licensed operators for UAV’s (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles / Drones) 400 feet Films upholds industry regulations.  These regulations protect both us and those we work with, keeping all insurances valid.  The restrictions can be very detailed.  There are some major factors worth noting.

Each job will be risk assessed on an individual basis as Somerset Drone Videographers.

What we require:

• Landowners permission for take off and landing.
• A maximum height of 400 feet above ground level.
• Maintaining a line of sight at all times to the UAV to a max distance of 500m.

• No flying directly over people, roads & buildings which are not under the control of the film crew.  A minimum of 50 meters distance to be maintained from these objects.

• If we are flying near to an airport or aerodrome, we may need to contact Air traffic Control.   Checking with them that it is safe to operate at a certain height on a specified date and time.

• Certain restrictions apply to central areas of London with additional permissions to fly needed to be sought from the C.A.A.

Safety is of the greatest importance

Often it is necessary to do a pre-flight location visit to ascertain safety.  Usually this can be done with a postcode or gps position of where we will be filming.  We can conduct a pre-flight survey online to check any restrictions that may be in place in the area.  The pilot has final say if conditions and locations can be ‘deemed safe’.

Our office is based in Poundbury, Dorchester, from where we regularly travel throughout the Somerset region.
